Since launching in 2013, Reverb.com, LLC and its affiliated companies (“Reverb” or “we” or “us”) has created a community for musicians, collectors, enthusiasts, dealers and the just-plain-curious to gather in a marketplace fully dedicated to buying and selling musical instruments, music gear, and equipment.The privacy of our community is something we take extremely seriously.

This Policy (or this “Privacy Policy”) explains our privacy practices for reverb.com or any affiliated websites (collectively, “Website” or “Site”), Reverb’s mobile and desktop applications ("Apps"), as well as Reverb’s application programming interface (“API”). We’ll refer to the Website, the Apps, the API, and other services depending on your location as the “Services.” This Policy applies to our registered buyers (“Buyers”), sellers (“Sellers,” and together with Buyers our “Members,”), those buyers who purchase items without an account, and anyone else who visits or uses the Services, whether an individual or an entity (together with “Members,” “you,” “your,” “User” and “Users.”) Users include vendors, merchants, contributors of content, information, and other materials or services on the Site.

This Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties (including other Members, API integrators, fulfillment or shipping services, advertising, or others) who you may choose to share information with when you use the Services. Please note that the collection and use of your information by these third parties is subject to their own privacy policies and terms. You should understand the privacy and security practices of any third party before you share information with them. To the extent permitted by law, this Policy does not apply to information collected by us offline.

Please read this Policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your personal information and how we will treat it. By accessing or using our Services, you expressly agree to this Policy. Some key points include:

  • We connect Buyers with Sellers that offer new, used, and vintage musical instruments and other gear. By accepting our Terms and Policies including this Policy, or by using any of our Services, you confirm that you have read and understand this Policy, including how and why we use your information.
  • We collect and use your personal information to provide and improve our Services, to protect the security and integrity of our Services and to comply with our legal obligations. To learn more about what information we collect and how we use it, see Sections 3-6 below.
  • We share your information with other affiliates, trusted partners and service providers to provide and improve our Services, for security purposes, to understand how you use and interact with our Services, and to meet our legal obligations. To learn more, see Section 7.
  • The data controller responsible for your personal information is Reverb.com, LLC, an Illinois Limited Liability Company. The contact details are set out in Section 15.

2. Children Under the Age of 18


Reverb is intended for a general audience, and requires all account owners to be at least 18 years of age. Reverb's Terms of Use prohibits the use of the Services by users under the age of 18. Reverb does not knowingly gather personal information (as defined by the U.S. Children’s Privacy Protection Act, or “COPPA”) in a manner not permitted by COPPA or other similar children’s privacy laws or regulations. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe we have collected personal information from your child in a manner not permitted by law, please contact customer service here. We will remove the data to the extent required by applicable laws.

3. Information You Provide to Us


In the course of providing the Services, we receive several types of information that directly or indirectly relates to you (which we call your “personal information”) in different ways from you. You may provide information to us when you set up an account, make a purchase, chat with our customer support bot or agents, message Members, participate in promotions, or respond to research, or otherwise use the Services. The capitalized terms in this Section 3 are definitions of information categories and description of information collected that we use throughout this Policy, so please refer back to this list as necessary.

  • Buyer Account Information: We collect certain information from you when you set up a Reverb Buyer account and use the Services.
  • Buyer Details: Your name, email address, and phone number
  • Buyer Payment Information: Your billing address and payment information (e.g., credit or debit card details or other payment credentials, like PayPal)
  • Delivery Information: Your delivery address, contact name, and phone number
  • Regional Information: Your country, default language, and currency
  • Seller Account Information: We collect certain information from you when you set up a Reverb Seller account and use the Services.
  • Seller Details: Your name, valid identification, email address, country of residence, phone number, date of birth, taxpayer address, and Reverb shop name
  • Seller Payment Information: Your bank country, bank account details, billing address and other payment information (e.g., credit or debit card details or PayPal credentials)
  • Shop Preferences: Your preferred language, country, and currency
  • Business/Tax Information: Your tax and government-issued identification numbers, tax address, business registration number; copies of related documentation
  • Regional Information: Your country, preferred language, and currency
  • Member Public Profile Information: As a Member on Reverb, you can choose to provide your name and other personal information in connection with your account and activity. Other people will be able to see your profile information. You can edit, remove or limit this information through your account settings.

  • Guest Checkout Information: You can purchase goods on Reverb without an account through our ‘Guest Checkout’ feature. We need certain information about you to facilitate your purchase.

  • Transaction Information: When you buy or sell goods on Reverb, we collect information about the order as part of your transaction history.
  • Information about the transactions made on our Services, such as the shop name, items purchased, Buyer’s name, purchase price, and date of the transaction
  • Photographs and Videos: You may upload photos and videos to your profile or shop.
  • Photos and videos you upload to your profile, as part of product reviews or through Reverb’s other products and features
  • Messages Information: You can contact another Member using Reverb Messages for a variety of reasons, such as customer support, personalizing products, or product and order questions.
  • Message Content: Content you share with, or receive from, other Members through our Messages function
  • Message Metadata: Metadata about content (such as the location where a photo was taken) and Messages (such as the date and time of the message)
  • Promotion Information: From time to time, Reverb runs promotional offers, contests and sweepstakes. The types of information we collect will be governed by the terms of the relevant promotion. However, in general, we will collect the email address and/or social handle (if social promotion) for the entrants.
  • Customer Support Information: We collect certain information when you engage with our customer support and marketplace integrity teams.
  • Your communications with our chatbot and support agents, including chat, messages, email, and phone
  • Any additional information you provide, including transaction information (e.g., order or transaction number or ID), and/or device and technical information (e.g., IP address for troubleshooting)
  • Survey Responses and Market Research: You may choose to provide certain information in connection with surveys, research and other feedback mechanisms.

  • We may, but generally do not, request demographic information, which may include your age, gender, work status, region and neighborhood type (e.g., rural, suburban, or urban) and, if you are located in the US, your income, education and race/ethnicity

4. Information We Collect About You


In the course of providing the Services, we collect several types of personal information in different ways and from different sources.

  • Information from our Payment Processors: We receive certain information about Buyers from our third-party payment processors, such as Paypal, who help us to process transactions, provide our Services and prevent fraudulent or illegal activity.

  • Information from Advertising and Marketing Partners: We receive certain information about you from our advertising and marketing partners, including in some instances what marketing content you viewed or clicked the actions you take on our Sites and Apps.   • We may receive from our third-party partners (or may collect directly), for example, attribution information via cookies and UTM tags in URLs to help us determine the source of the traffic to Reverb or track the performance of a specific campaign
  • We may also receive responses to marketing emails and advertisements, responses to offers, and audience information from partners who you have given consent to share that information with us
  • Analytics Information: We use data analytics software to ensure Site and App functionality and to improve the Services. For more information, see Reverb's Cookies Policy.
  • We use third-party software to record information such as how often you use the Site and/or Apps, what happens within the Apps or on our Site (e.g., how you interact with our Services), aggregated usage, performance data, app errors and debugging information
  • Third-Party Application Information: We receive certain information when you engage with third-party applications or platform integrations on other sites and apps.
  • When you link our Services with third-party applications or integrations (e.g., linked third-party accounts), we receive your contact information, including your name and email address, and any additional information you authorize the third party to share with us (for example, social media accounts and/or sign-in functionality)
  • Non-Member Information: Reverb receives or obtains information about a person who is not yet a registered Reverb Member in connection with certain Reverb features, such as when a Member invites a Non-Member to visit the Site, a Member uploads Non-Member information to send a gift, when a Member sends a gift card code to a Non-Member, and when a friend enters a Non-Member into a sweepstakes.

5. Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies


When you use our Services (even if you do not have a Reverb account), we may use automatic data collection technologies, including cookies, to help us improve our Services and to deliver a better and more personalized experience. Some of the information described in this Section does not alone constitute personal information, but we may link this information to your personal information that we collect from other sources or you provide to us for use of the Services. These technologies include non-technically necessary cookies and similar technologies. You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of the Services may then be inaccessible or not function properly. To the extent required by applicable law, we rely on a number of legal bases to use your information in these ways. If you reside outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”), Switzerland or the United Kingdom (“UK”) (together referred to as the “European Region”), the legal bases on which we rely may differ from those listed below.

  • Where necessary to perform our contract with you: We use certain information that is necessary for us to provide you with the Services and perform our Terms of Use or other relevant contract(s) with you. We will need to close your account if we cannot process your personal information for such purposes.
  • Where necessary for our legitimate interest: We rely on our legitimate interests or those of third parties (like other Buyers and Sellers, and in some cases, the general public) where they are not outweighed by your rights and freedoms.   • To help Sellers reach the most appropriate audience for their goods.
  • To ensure the security of our Services, to verify accounts and activity, to combat harmful or inappropriate conduct or content and to detect, prevent and address spam.
  • To enforce our Terms of Use and associated policies, including to prevent or address fraud and other illegal activities.
  • To share information with third parties, including as part of investigations or regulatory inquiries, to detect, investigate and prosecute illegal activity or to prevent death or imminent bodily harm.
  • To enable business transactions that may be necessary and in our legitimate interests, particularly our interest in making decisions that enable our business to develop over the long term.
  • Where necessary to comply with our legal obligation: Our Services are subject to laws and regulations that require us to collect, use, and store your personal information in certain ways. 7. Disclosure of Your Information


We share your data with third parties where necessary to perform the Services, comply with our legal obligations, or for purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, including:

  • Publicly Displayed Information: By using the Services, certain information about you will be publicly displayed on the Site and Apps, such as Member Public Profile Information. Buyers and Sellers can choose to make certain information and activities private through their account or Public Profile settings. Your reviews of shops or items you’ve purchased may also be shared on the Site and with other platforms and search engines, including Google. For Sellers, some additional information will be publicly displayed. For example, your shop name or or business name associated with your account (which you may modify and update in your account settings) is publicly displayed.
  • Reverb Group Companies: We may share some of the information that we collect, such as Buyer Account Information, Seller Account Information, Service Usage Information, Device and Browser Information, and Cookie Information, with our corporate affiliates, including Etsy, Inc. and its subsidiaries. The information shared among Reverb affiliates may be used for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and generally to operate our business, including for ID verification purposes, transaction monitoring and payment processing or to provide customer support, facilitate business development, administer user accounts or provide IT, technical and engineering support.
  • Sellers: We may share aggregated information about your use of the Services to Sellers, so they can provide you with better service and so we can improve our Site and Apps.
  • Linked Third-Party Websites or Services: Some Members may choose to connect to Reverb or register a Reverb account using an external third-party application, such as Apple, Facebook, or Google. Connecting your Reverb account to third-party applications or services is optional. If you choose to connect your account to a third-party application, the providers of those services or products may receive information about you that Reverb, you, or others share with them. Please be aware that when you use third-party sites or services, their own terms and privacy policies will govern your use of those sites or services. You may also link your bank account or payment method to pay for purchases (or receive payment, in the case of Sellers in select markets) through a third-party service available through the Site or Reverb App. When you register with these third-party partners, we will tell you what information is collected and what information the third-party will share with Reverb.
  • Business Partners: Reverb works closely with a number of business partners, such as our shipping, and payment partners, that assist us with providing the Services in accordance with our Terms of Use. When one of these companies assists us in facilitating your transaction, we, or they, may need to share information related to the transaction in order to complete your order.
  • Professional Advisors, Industry Partners, Authorities and Regulators: We share your information described in Section 3 with our advisors and consultants, regulators and tax authorities, law enforcement, government agencies, civil litigants, and industry partners (for example, trade groups) to:
  • comply with applicable law or regulations, court orders, subpoenas, legal process or government requests;
  • detect, investigate, prevent, or address actual or suspected fraud, violations of Reverb’s Terms of Use, and other illegal activity or security and technical issues; and/or
  • protect the rights, property and safety of our Members, Reverb and the Reverb Group Companies, or others, including to prevent death or imminent bodily harm.
  • Business Reorganization: In some cases, Reverb may choose to reorganize its business. In these types of transactions (such as a sale, merger, liquidation, receivership, or transfer of all or substantially all of Reverb’s assets), Member information is typically one of the business assets that is transferred. If Reverb intends to transfer information about you, Reverb will notify you by email or by putting a notice on the Site and the Apps.
  • Service Providers: Reverb also engages third-party companies and individuals (such as research companies, analytics services, and security providers) to help us operate, provide, and advertise the Services. These third parties have limited access to your information, may use your information only to perform these tasks on our behalf, and are prohibited from disclosing or using your information for other purposes. The types of third-party service providers that we work with include research companies, analytics providers, security providers, software service providers, infrastructure and technical service providers, professional service providers, and customer or other outsourced service providers. The information we share may include Member Public Profile Information, Buyer Account Information, Seller Account Information, Guest Checkout Information, Transaction Information, General Location Information, Photos and Videos, Customer Support Information, Messages Information, Browser and Device Information, Service Usage Information, Survey Responses and Market Research, and Analytics Information.

This Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties (e.g. Members, API users and integrators, fulfillment and shipping services, advertisers, other websites or applications, or other third party providers), that Reverb does not own or control. Your Rights & Choices

Consistent with those laws, Reverb gives you the choice of accessing, editing, or removing certain information, as well as choices about how we contact you.

Depending on your location, you may also have additional rights with respect to your information, such as:

  • Right to Access & Portability - You can access certain personal information associated with your account by visiting your account privacy settings. You can request a copy of your personal information in an easily accessible format and information explaining how that information is used.
  • Right to Correction - You have the right to request that we rectify inaccurate information about you. By visiting your account settings, you can correct and change certain personal information associated with your account
  • Right to Restrict Processing - In certain cases where we process your information, you may also have the right to restrict or limit the ways in which we use your personal information.
  • Right to Deletion - In certain circumstances, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal information, except information we are required to retain by law, regulation, or to protect the safety, security, and integrity of Reverb.
  • Right to Object - If we process your information based on our legitimate interests as explained above, or in the public interest, you can object to this processing in certain circumstances. In such cases, we will cease processing your information unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue processing or where it is needed for legal reasons. Where we use your personal data for direct marketing purposes, you can object using the unsubscribe link in such communications.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent - Where we rely on consent, you can choose to withdraw your consent to our processing of your information using specific features provided to enable you to withdraw consent, like an email unsubscribe link or your account privacy preferences. Reverb may send you messages about the Services or your activity. 10. Data Security


The security of your personal information is important to us. We protect your personal information through technical and administrative measures designed to mitigate the risk of unlawful or unauthorized access, destruction, loss, alteration, disclosure or use of your data. To protect your account we encourage you to choose your password carefully.

We use Google reCAPTCHA Enterprise in connection with offering you our Services to help prevent spam, fraud, and abuse. reCAPTCHA Enterprise collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for purposes of providing, maintaining, and improving reCAPTCHA Enterprise and for general security purposes. Your use of reCAPTCHA Enterprise is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

11. Data Retention


Reverb will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. If you no longer want Reverb to use your information, you may close your account and follow the Right to Withdraw Consent described in Section 8. After closing your account, Reverb will retain and use your information only as necessary to comply with our legal obligations (including tax/revenue laws, “Know your Customer” or other regulatory requirements), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

12. Changes to Our Privacy Policy


We may amend this Policy at our discretion from time to time. If we believe that the changes are material, we’ll let you know by posting the changes through the Services and sending you an email or message about the changes. Your continued use of our Services after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes. You are responsible for ensuring we have an up-to-date, active and deliverable email address for you, and for periodically visiting our Website and this Policy to check for any changes.

13. International Transfers


Reverb operates a global service. By using our Services, you understand that Reverb may share some of the information it collects with its affiliates and third-party partners located outside of your home country for purposes described in this Policy, including for verification of identity, transaction reviews, and payment processing.

The United States, European Economic Area (“EEA”) Member States, and other countries all have different laws. Exercising your right to opt-out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your Personal Information or processing of your Personal Information for targeted advertising. While we do not sell personal information for money, like many companies, we use services that help deliver interest-based ads to you. The State Privacy Laws may classify our use of some of these services as “selling” or “sharing” your personal information with providers of these services. You can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for interest-based ads, and related tracking, by clicking the “Privacy Settings” link (or for California residents, the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Info” link) at the footer of our homepage or through your account privacy settings. Verification; Authorized agents. Appeals; Non-Discrimination; and Accessibility. In certain states, you may have the right to appeal our decision regarding a request related to these rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights. This means, for example, we won’t deny you goods or services, provide you with a different level or quality of services, or charge you different prices or rates for services.

California Consumer Privacy Notice

This California Consumer Privacy Notice (“California Notice”) supplements Reverb’s U.S. Regional Privacy Notice and applies to personal information Reverb collects online about California consumers. This California Consumer Privacy Statement uses certain terms that have the meaning given to them in the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020) and its implementing regulations (collectively, the “CCPA”).

1. Notice of Collection and Use of Personal Information

We may collect and may have collected during the 12-month period prior to the Last Updated date of this California Notice the following categories of personal information about you:

Colorado Privacy Notice

This Colorado Privacy Notice (“Colorado Notice”) supplements Reverb’s U.S. Regional Privacy Notice and applies to personal information Reverb collects online about Colorado consumers. We adopt this Supplemental Notice to comply with the Colorado Privacy Act (the “CPA”). This Colorado Notice uses certain terms that have the meanings given to them in the CPA.
